About oneworld

oneworld is one of the three major global airline alliances. It was launched on 1 February 1999 by four founding carriers - American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas - and today has 15 full member airlines. Since December 2022 the alliance has been headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and it markets itself with the slogan 'Travel Bright'. Although it is the smallest of the big three by number of members, oneworld is known for a strong line-up of premium long-haul carriers, serving around 1,000 airports in roughly 170 countries with some 13,000 daily departures for close to half a billion passengers a year.

Frequent flyers are recognised across the alliance through three harmonised status tiers - Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald - onto which each airline's own loyalty levels are mapped. This means the points and status you earn with one member can be used and recognised on any other. Higher tiers unlock access to a global network of partner lounges, priority check-in and boarding, priority baggage handling and delivery, security fast-track lanes where available, and additional checked-baggage allowances, giving elite members a consistent premium experience across the whole network.

For multi-stop journeys oneworld offers round-the-world and multi-continent fares, such as its Global Explorer product, that let travellers string together flights across several members on one ticket. The alliance also runs a lighter 'oneworld connect' arrangement that allows additional airlines to link into the network. Throughout, the emphasis is on seamless connections and reciprocal benefits, so that miles, status and smooth transfers follow the passenger from one member carrier to the next wherever they travel.
