Look up an airline’s frequent flyer program

Look up United Airlines using its IATA code UA and read ffp_name. This example returns MileagePlus. Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your assigned key.

Request parameters

Look up an airline or export the directory, then read ffp_name from the returned records. The name parameter searches airline names, not frequent flyer program names. Filter program names in your application after retrieving the records.

Find a program by airline name

Search with the airline’s name, select the intended record and read ffp_name. Partial name matching can return multiple airlines, so confirm the identity before displaying a program. To search for a program name itself, filter your downloaded directory locally.

Retrieve a program name using an ICAO code

Use icao when your source supplies a three-letter airline designator. This example retrieves United Airlines using UAL and reads its frequent flyer program name from the same record.

What does the Airline Frequent Flyer Programs API return?

The ffp_name field returns the name of the airline’s frequent flyer program. It is included in the Airlines API record alongside airline names, codes and other reference data.

Can I look up a program using an airline code?

Yes. Pass an IATA airline code in iata or an ICAO code in icao, then read ffp_name. You can also search using the airline’s name.

Can I search directly for a frequent flyer program name?

The documented name parameter searches airline names, not program names. Export the directory with dump=1 and search or filter ffp_name locally if your application needs program-name search.

Does this API provide mileage balances or validate membership numbers?

No. ffp_name is airline reference data. It does not provide passenger accounts, balances, membership validation or access to a loyalty account.

Can I use ffp_name to determine which program a passenger can credit a flight to?

No. The field identifies the program listed on the airline record, not every partner program accepted for a particular booking. Use the relevant fare and loyalty-program rules to determine mileage credit and eligibility. The name alone does not establish mileage amounts or passenger benefits.

Is a program name a unique identifier?

The API documentation does not define ffp_name as a unique program identifier. Preserve the airline relationship using airhex_id and its codes rather than treating the displayed name as a permanent record key.

What should I do if ffp_name is empty?

Omit the program label or display “No program listed” according to your product’s design. An empty value does not establish whether the airline participates in other loyalty arrangements. Do not infer a program from the airline’s alliance or parent carrier.

Can I download and store program names in my own database?

Yes, with an appropriate Airline Database license. Export in JSON, XML or CSV and keep airline identities with the program names.
