Get an airline’s baggage policy link

Look up Southwest Airlines using its IATA code WN and read baggage_url. Use the returned URL for a baggage-policy link in your application. Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your assigned key.

Request parameters

Use the Airlines API to retrieve an individual airline or export the directory. baggage_url is a response field; no separate baggage-policy endpoint or baggage_url query parameter is required.

Available data

Match baggage_url to the airline identity before displaying it. The API supplies a link to the airline’s policy page; it does not return structured baggage allowances, dimensions or fees for a specific ticket.

Download baggage policy links for your airline directory

Export the airline directory as CSV, then retain baggage_url alongside airline names, codes and airhex_id. Only display a policy link when a URL is present. Use onlyscheduled=0 if you also need carrier types beyond scheduled airlines, and select the relevant records in your application.

Find a baggage policy by airline name

Search with name, select the intended airline and read baggage_url. Partial name matching can return multiple records, so confirm the identity before showing its policy link.

Retrieve a policy link using an ICAO code

Use icao if your source identifies the airline with a three-letter ICAO designator. This example retrieves Southwest Airlines using SWA and returns the same airline record and baggage policy field.

What does the Airline Baggage Policy API return?

The baggage_url field contains a URL to the airline’s baggage allowance policy. It is returned within the Airlines API record alongside the airline name, codes and other reference data.

Does the API return baggage weights, dimensions or fees?

This field returns a policy URL, not structured allowance or pricing data. Travelers can follow the link to the airline’s policy. Obtain ticket-specific baggage entitlements and purchasable options from your booking supplier.

Can I use the policy link to determine what a fare includes?

No. A general airline policy link does not establish the baggage entitlement for an individual booking. Use the allowance supplied with the selected fare or ticket and offer the policy link as additional guidance.

Can I retrieve a policy by IATA code, ICAO code or name?

Yes. Use iata, icao or name to retrieve an airline record, then read baggage_url. Name searches support partial matching, so verify the returned airline before using its link.

Which link should I show for a codeshare or multi-airline itinerary?

Associate each policy link with the airline record it belongs to and label it with that airline’s name. Do not use this field alone to decide which carrier’s rules apply to the ticket; use the baggage information supplied with the booking. Use a clear label such as “View airline baggage policy” so travelers know what they will open.

What should I do when baggage_url is empty?

Do not render an empty or broken link. Omit the policy button or provide another support path in your application. Missing data does not establish that the airline permits or prohibits any particular baggage. It also does not mean the airline has no baggage policy.

Can I store baggage policy links in my own database?

Yes, with an appropriate Airline Database license. Export with dump=1 in JSON, XML or CSV and retain the airline identity with each URL. Refresh stored records periodically; Airhex reviews and updates airline data daily. Retain airhex_id and the updated timestamp from the full response so imports can pick up policy URL changes.

Does the API supply policy text or translated versions?

The documented baggage_url field supplies a URL, not policy text or language-specific variants. The destination airline page controls the content and language options available to the traveler.
